I-20 or DS-2019 expiring? —Check your documents for the end date of your I-20 or DS-2019. If it is expiring in December and you will not be graduating, please make an appointment with an OISS advisor as soon as possible to discuss your situation.

Students who will begin a new level of study (e.g., completing bachelor's and commencing master's or completing master's and commencing PhD) will need to request their new I-20 at OISS.

Travelling over Thanksgiving Break or Intersession? — Be sure to have your I-20 or DS-2019 when you travel, as well as the other recommended documents listed on our Travel Instructions Handout at . Also, make sure that you have a valid travel signature on your I-20 or DS-2019. The travel signature should be less than six months old as of the date you will return to the United States. If you need a travel signature please bring your I-20 or DS-2019 in to OISS for processing at least 10 days before your trip. I t is essential that you have your passport, I-94 card, Form I-20 or DS-2019 and UNO ID card with you even when travelling within the U.S. or the state of Louisiana. 

Optional Practical Training —If you are completing your program in December, are in F-1 status, and have been planning to apply for post-completion optional practical training, but have not yet done so, do not delay! Fall 2011 graduates must send their completed applications to the USCIS Processing Center so that it arrives there before February 28, 2011, which is 60 days following the completion date for Fall graduates. Make an appointment with an advisor as soon as possible. Remember : It can take three months or more to obtain the Employment Authorization Document (EAD card) from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Service Center. Employment can not begin until you receive your EAD card, even if the requested start date has passed.

UNO closed for the holidays —Please keep in mind that all UNO offices will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday starting at 4:30pm on Wednesday, November 23 and will reopen on Monday, November 28. For the winter intercession, UNO offices will be closed starting at 4:30 pm on Friday, December 23, 2011 and will not reopen until Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

Muslim Students' Association Lectures —The Muslim Students' Association at UNO will be hosting two lectures this month to address commonly misunderstood aspects of the Islamic faith:

Speaker: Sr. Jenny Yanez, New Orleans Muslim Activist

Lecture: "Islam De-mystified" in Kirschman Hall 129

Speaker: Dr. Aaron Spevack, professor of Islamic Studies, Loyola University

There will an opportunity for Q&A in both sessions and there will be FREE food and drinks.  

Be a part of International Night 2012!— International Student Organization is recruiting committee members to help organized one of the biggest student-run events to see UNO: International Night 2012. Committee members will be given the opportunity to meet people of different backgrounds, gain leadership experience, and get involved at UNO. Weekly meetings will begin the week of January 23rd. If you are interested, please contact ISO at .
