UNO-OISS News Issue #22—March 2014
Optional Practical Training (OPT) Information Session—If you missed the OPT information session in February, the second session for the spring semester will be on Thursday, March 27 at 2:30 p.m. in ED 206. Advisors will give a general overview of OPT and explain the application process. If you are graduating in May, you should plan on applying for OPT as soon as possible and attend this information session. Current USCIS average processing times for the OPT application is three months, so make sure to contact an advisor as early as possible in March to make your application appointment. If you are unable to attend the session on March 27, you will need to schedule an appointment with an OISS advisor for an overview. Information sessions are open to all F-1 students and we encourage you to attend, especially if you will be graduating in May 2014.

Holi—For the fourth year in a row, UNO's Student Activities Council and Chakra Indian Student Association have teamed up to bring the Hindu festival, Holi, to UNO's campus for one of the craziest, most memorable experiences that you will never forget. The event will take place this Sunday, March 16 from 2 p.m.—4 p.m. at the UNO Amphitheater. Holi is a Hindu festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Traditionally, during the festival Hindu devotees chase each other through the streets, splashing colorful paint, powder and water on each other. Admission is free for students with UNO ID and includes colors for throwing and splashing. Admission for the general public is $5 and includes colors. UNO’s Holi Festival will include dance performances, henna artists, international food, live music and a fun, messy experience!
