Optional Practical Training for graduating students—F-1 students who will be graduating in May 2014 and plan to apply for post-completion optional practical training are reminded that they should schedule an appointment with an OISS advisor as soon as possible to complete their OPT application.
F-1 students who have not yet begun the practical training application process are urged to do so soon so that you will have the best possible opportunity to obtain your employment authorization card in a timely manner. Currently, it is taking the USCIS Texas Service Center approximately three months to process OPT employment authorization applications. Employment cannot begin unless you have the card "in hand."
Income Tax Information—International students are not exempt from filing income tax forms – even if the U.S. has a tax treaty with the country of origin. If you are an international student who needs help filling out your tax forms, come to one of the income tax sessions. There is only one more day of tax sessions scheduled before the tax filing deadline: Thursday, April 10 at 2:00p.m. and 3:00p.m. in Kirschman Hall Room 221. For more information on the tax sessions, please check: http://oiss.uno.edu/tax.cfm. Please remember the deadline for filing taxes is Tuesday, April 15, 2014.
OISS staff is not qualified to provide tax advice. No additional assistance is available to students and scholars for tax form preparations.
Those in need of Individual Tax Identification Numbers (ITINs) should complete form W-7 (link below) by following the instructions (second link below).
