UNO-OISS News Issue #37—October 2015
OPT Information Session - The last OPT information session for the fall semester will be on Thursday, October 29 at 2:30 p.m. in ED 224. Advisors will give a general overview of OPT and explain the application process. If you are graduating in December, you should plan on applying for OPT in October or early November. Information sessions are open to all F-1 students and we encourage you to attend, especially if you will be graduating in December 2015. Fulltime enrollment - Just a friendly reminder that F-1 and J1 students are required to register full time for each term. You must have at least 12 credit hours if you are an undergraduate student and 9 credit hours if you are a graduate student to remain full time and in status. You are also required to be registered full time the entire semester.
On-line Classes – No more than the equivalent of one on-line class or 3 credits per semester may count towards the “full course of study” requirement. This means that undergraduate students must have a minimum of 9 credit hours on-site and graduate students must have a minimum of 6 credit hours on-site. Traveling outside the U.S during the semester – All international students should plan to travel outside the U.S during academic breaks and not during the Fall and Spring semesters while classes are in session. Traveling outside the U.S (two weeks or more) during the semester for personal/medical reasons that are not considered an emergency will not be allowed without written permission from all your professors. If you are a graduate student you will also need permission from the Graduate School.
Got Soccer Skills?— The World Cup Soccer Tournament will be presented by the International Student Organization on Saturday, October 24 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the quad. This event is a chance for you to show off your soccer skills and enjoy a day of fun competition with student teams. It is a coed 8-on-8 tournament; registration will be $12 per player and each team can have between 8 to 10 players. Anyone is welcome to participate. For additional information or to register a team, email iso@uno.edu or Nischal Adhikari at: nadhika1@my.uno.edu . Oktoberfest - Oktoberfest will take place during the following weekends 9-10, 16-17, 23-24 and will feature German food, music and fun. Hours: Fridays – 4:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. and Saturdays – 1:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Admission $6, free for children under 12. The event will take place at Deutsches Haus on 415 Williams Blvd., Kenner. We will meet at the UC at UNO at 8:00am on Saturday morning and plan to return to UNO by 3pm.
