Tax filing deadline: April 1 5 , 201 9 Are you ready? International students who work are not exempt from filing income tax forms – even if the U.S. has a tax treaty with the country of origin. If you are an international student who needs help filling out your tax forms, come to one of the tax sessions. Dr. Reid from the Accounting department and members of Beta Alpha Psi will be there to help.
Thursday, April 4, 2:00p.m. and 4:00p.m. (India Day) KH 214 Tuesday, April 9, 2:00p.m. and 3:00p. m. KH 214 There are two sessions scheduled on each day. The first session will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the second session from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. except for March 2 8 st in which the first session will be held from 3 : 3 0 p.m. to 4 : 3 0 p.m. and the second session from 4 : 3 0 p.m. to 5 : 3 0 p.m. Please make sure to be punctual . Be sure to bring your W-2 forms , passport , and your Form 1042-S (if you have one). You will also need to bring the1040NR-EZ tax form to the session. You can print a copy of the form by clicking on the following link: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040nre.pdf . Please do not wait until last minute to file your return. Students who will receive refunds should bring a voided check if they want to get direct deposit. This is highly recommended as it is much faster and safer. Also, for those students who will owe money, there is no option to pay by credit card, only by check (unless they opt to file electronically). But to file on paper they will only be able to pay by check. Note: You may want to use the University of Texas tax website, to print tax forms and information on U.S. tax treaties with other countries: http://world.utexas.edu/isss/tax
If you prefer to file your taxes through an online US tax prep solution for international students and scholars, please check out Sprintax . As a reminder you have to print, sign and mail your documents once you complete the preparation process in Sprintax. If you have any questions, please use the Sprintax live chat function and the team will be happy to help.
